Onychophosis (subungual hyperkeratosis)
Onychophosis (subungual callus) is the accumulation of hyperkeratosis in the lateral wall of the nail, localized most often at the level of the big toe. This alteration can be caused by excessive pressure from tight footwear, a structural alteration of the nail, and/or a support deficit. Erythema and swelling typically localize on the nail groove, leading to the formation of an ingrown toenail.
Treatment of onychophosis
Treatment of onychophosis consists of proper cutting of the nail andabrasion of the lamina resulting in removal of periungualhyperkeratosis.
